TFL’s Take: Here’s your chance to purchase one of the featured trucks from TFL’s “To Hell and Back” video series! This Chevy K1500 Cheyenne 4×4 is ready to work and tackle the trails! Some will tell you the GMT400 is the best generation of Chevy trucks ever made, and this one has the very reliable 305 5.0 liter engine.

Overview:

  • For auction: 1998 Chevrolet K1500 Cheyenne 4X4 Extended Cab with 207,897 miles on the odometer as this auction goes live.
  • This truck is paid off. There are no outstanding liens against it.

The GMT400 trucks have an amazing look, and this 305 cubic inch (5.0 liter) engine has proven to be a reliable engine. This K1500 has been lifted and fitted with brand new 33-inch Toyo Open Country M/T tires. It also recently had a front hitch receiver installed, which makes using the Bulldog 9,500-pound winch a breeze. The truck is equipped with a quick-disconnect, so you can quickly install and remove the winch.  This K1500’s 4×4 system operates perfectly, and there are no other drivability issues. Recent maintenance includes a recent brake fluid flush.

Known issues: There are some minor dings and scratches around the exterior, but the body and the bed have no major damage.  There’s a tear in the driver’s seat, and some other minor damage around the interior.  There’s also a small oil drip.  At present, the A/C does is not functioning.  (See photos for examples). AutoCheck reports this is a 3-owner truck with its first 18 years spent in Wyoming. It also notes a front end accident in 2007 in Wyoming with 88K miles on the truck.

The tires, winch, taillights, front hitch receiver, and hood graphics are all brand new as of April 2021.

  1. TFL Grant

Congrats to Steveweiser for winning the auction! Some spiriting bidding there in the end.

  2. Alex Lightman

Hi all! The reserve has been met on the Chevy K1500. Good luck!

  3. Steveweiser

Did the recent maintenance include tightening the loose suspension components and fixing the leaking transmission line?

    • Alex Lightman

The dangerous suspension and steering components you saw in the video were related to the black Dodge Ram 1500, NOT this truck. The suspension on this Chevy has a little bit of play, but our mechanic said it is not dangerous. Same with the leaking transmission line, that was on the Dodge, not this Chevy. This truck does have a small leak, but it seems to be an engine oil drip, not from the transmission line.

  4. Maxxxdog

Do you still have the shell that came with the truck when you bought it?

    • TFL Grant

We gave away the shell, already. Sorry.

  5. TheHighwayRythym

Is it a salvage title or clean title?

    • Alex Lightman

The truck has a clean title.

  6. Steveweiser

Has a quick disconnect been added to the winch?

    • Alex Lightman

Yes it has. The listing photos were taken before that work was completed. The winch is ready to go!

  7. TheHighwayRythym

How bad is the oil leak? Slow when not running or faster when running or the same both ways?

    • Alex Lightman

As far as we can tell it’s a constant slow drip. It does not seem to get worse when the engine is running.
